Fork in road

We are at a crossroads in our life.

It is easy to see the crossroads when we are facing something big. A potential divorce. Deciding whether to go to college, and if so, in what program. Determining whether to move to another country and what that will mean to those we love, and for our future.

We Are At A Crossroad Each Moment Of Our Lives

In actuality, we are at a crossroad each moment of our lives.

It is like a spiderweb of intersecting roadways. As we choose to go down one road, the others are not taken. The further we go down the road we’ve chosen, the other roads are less viable until they are no longer an option.

Many of us do not want to choose. We want to keep our options open. But then we are mired in the middle of this web of possibility, until the road chosen is to go nowhere at all but to stay stuck in a web of our own not choosing.

It can be daunting to choose a certain road, knowing that the other roads are now closing for us. That other possible futures for us must now be laid to rest.

It can also be daunting because we don’t know exactly where the road we’ve chosen will lead us. Sure, we can see a certain distance down this road. Sure, we can do the spiritual work to look more deeply into what is the right choice for us and know the power of it in this moment. But there is never certainty as we walk the road, the path we’ve chosen. There is no clear roadmap laid out before us to get to a certain destination. We cannot map out our journey from, say, Albuquerque to New York City like we can using GPS. But there is a way to more assuredly move toward the destination we seek: through the Way of the Vision.

The Way Of Vision Is Our Roadmap

This Way is not as clear-cut as a journey from one physical destination to another. It is a more circuitous route that we move forward on, one that demands we continue to evolve and grow, even as our pathway and our Vision evolves and grows. It is through almost constant vigilance that we take each step on this journey of becoming…not what our parents wanted us to be nor what our society demands that we be. But who we are at the very core of our being. Fulfilling our life, living our Vision as only we are uniquely qualified to do. Giving to the very fabric of consciousness the best of who we are, helping to weave the fabric of life into something that is more beneficial for everyone on every level.

This is not an easy endeavor. In this endeavor we have to separate the chaff from the wheat of our lives. We have to let go of some cherished ways of feeling safe. We have to heal our wounding. We have to overcome our beliefs, wrought with years of interpreted experience as to who we truly are and what we’re truly capable of.

It has to go much deeper than personality, than our life’s interpreted experience to date, than our perceived limitations. We are in the process of making ourselves. Of determining what road we will empower and which ones we will never take. Of Becoming, as Grandfather and Tom would say.

Empower Our Vision And Listen Deeply For The Next Step

It cannot be simply decided with our minds. Our programming, our neural pathways, and the gorilla mind are all against change of any sort. But it is through empowering our vision—whatever that might be in the present moment—and then listening deeply for the next step that any true progress may happen. And then doing it again and again. Re-examining, re-focusing, re-committing to what we know, deep in our hearts, is the right next step, taken with intent and purpose beyond self.

And thus each moment we are at a crossroads. Will we go the easy route and continue to choose through non-choice, doing things the way we’ve always done them (as dictated by society and our own internal comfort zone)? Or will we make a conscious and spiritual choice to move forward into the unknown, guided by our deepest heart’s longing—for us, for our people, and for the children of all species?

“Choice…one of the most powerful elements of life.”
—Tom Brown, Jr.

How can we make a difference? Whatever we carry in our hearts will go out to all whom we touch.
The transformation continues. Subtle. Persistent, even as I am persistent. Being acted on and taking action. I am being forged.

Although we may learn from many teachers, it is up to each of us to tend our own internal fire.
What is it that makes your heart sing? Hearts joined together in a common Vision is what makes family.
